Paris Esplanade des Invalides

Paris is the most beautiful city I've ever seen. Everywhere I looked there was something beautiful to look at, either a building, the nature or simply the people on the street. Everybody is laid back and parisian women dress so elegant and chic.
I loved the view from our hotel window: the Eiffel tower.

Paris Paris - Les Invalides
The Invalides museum is the burial place for many great French soldiers, including Napoleon.
The dome of the church is guilded with real gold. It took more than 10 kg of gold to cover the dome. (http://www.invalides.org/)

Paris Église du Dôme, inspired by St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, the original for all Baroque domes. The sarcophagus of Napoleon is located in the cript under the dome.

Paris The Place de la Concorde is one of the major squares in Paris, France. It is located in the 8th arrondissement, at the eastern end of the Champs-Élysées.

Paris The center of the Place is occupied by a giant Egyptian obelisk decorated with hieroglyphics exalting the reign of the pharaoh Ramses II. It once marked the entrance to the Luxor Temple. The viceroy of Egypt, Mehemet Ali, presented the 3,300-year-old Luxor Obelisk to France in 1829. King Louis-Philippe had it placed in the centre of Place de la Concorde in 1833. Given the technical limitations of the day, transporting it was no easy feat - on the pedestal are drawn diagrams explaining the machinery that were used for the transportation. The red granite column rises 23 metres high, including the base, and weighs over 250 tonnes. Missing its original cap, in 1998 the government of France added a gold-leafed pyramid cap to the top of the obelisk.

Paris The obelisk is flanked on both sides by fountains constructed at the time of its erection on the Place.

Paris Jardin des Tuileries
The Tuileries Garden covers about 63 acres (25 hectares) and still closely follows a design laid out by landscape architect Andre Le Notre in 1664.
I was joggling a chocolate and wiped cream covered goffre and a crepe (those are the french pancakes). I'm telling you: it's worth the extra calories.

Paris L'Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel
It is located on the Place du Carrousel, just to the west of the Louvre. Click here for more info.

Paris The Louvre Museum (French: Musée du Louvre) in Paris, France, is the most visited and one of the oldest, largest and most famous art galleries and museums in the world. The Louvre has a long history of artistic and historic conservation, from the Capetian dynasty until today. The building was previously a royal palace, and is famous for holding several of the world's most prestigious works of art, such as Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa, The Virgin and Child with St. Anne, Madonna of the Rocks and Alexandros of Antioch's Venus de Milo.

Paris The equestrian statue of Louis XIV constitutes the starting point axe historique, but the Louvre Palace is not aligned on this axis.
The Axe historique (historical axis) is a line of monuments, buildings and thoroughfares that extends from the centre of Paris, France, to the west. It is also known as the "Voie Triomphale" (triumphal way).

Paris Place Vendôme
Napoleon erected the present column, modelled after Trajan's Column, to celebrate the victory of Austerlitz; its spiralling veneers of bas-relief bronze plates (by the sculptor Pierre-Nolasque Bergeret) were made out of cannon taken from the combined armies of Europe, according to his propaganda.
Coco Chanel made the Hôtel Ritz in Place Vendôme her home.

Paris You wouldn't guess this is Eiffel Tower if I didn't tell you, right?
This is the mandatory picture for every person who visits Paris.

Paris Le Palais Chaillot and Place de Trocadero as seen from the top of Eiffel Tower.
The Chaillot Palace is the home of many different museums in several fields, such as cinema, maritime history, and anthropology, as well as the Cinematheque.

Paris My friend and her daughter were freezing at the top of the tower. Although it was a very windy and cold day, there were tonnes of visitors. We waited at least one hour in line to get to the top.

Paris The Arc de Triomphe stands in the centre of the Place Charles de Gaulle, formerly the Place de l'Étoile, at the western end of the Champs-Élysées.
The monument stands over 51 meters (165 feet) in height and is 45 meters wide. It is the second largest triumphal arch in existence [1] Its design was inspired by the Roman Arch of Titus; The Arc de Triomphe is so colossal that an early daredevil flew his plane through it.

Paris Beneath the Arc is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from the First World War. Interred here on Armistice Day 1920, it has the first eternal flame lit in Western Europe since the Vestal Virgins' fire was extinguished in the year 391. It burns in memory of the dead who were never identified, now in both World Wars.
On July 2, 1998, the flame was extinguished when a drunk national soccer fan urinated on the flame. He was subsequently charged with public intoxication.

Paris Champs d'Élisée
This impressive promenade stretches from the Place the la Concorde to the Place Charles de Gaulle, the site of the Arc de Triomphe. At its western end the Champs-Elysées is bordered by cinemas, theaters, cafés and luxury shops. Near the Place de la Concorde, the street is bordered by the Jardins des Champs-Elysées, beautifully arranged gardens with fountains and some grand buildings including the Grand and Petit Palais at the southern side and the Elysée at its northern side.
